Fall Family Activities for 2018


Pumpkins and Scarves and Costumes, Oh My!

Fall is such a fun time to spend with the family and there are so many great community activities! I wanted to create a space for you where they can be listed in one area for your convince. Personally, I am always looking for great community activities to enjoy with my family and I will spend hours on Google searching them out! So, I have organized for you (and for myself if I am being honest) no cost and low cost activities in Western Pa!

No Cost or Low Cost activities:

  1. Spring House Great Pumpkin Festival

    Beginning September 28th through the end of October on Fridays from 2-5pm and Saturdays 11-5pm.

  2. 49th Annual Fall Festival at Historic Trax Farms

    Beginning Sat & Sun, September. 29 - October 28, 10am-5pm

    Live entertainment, food and activities including a petting zoo. Small fee for various activities. Also, hayrides includes 3 acre Corn Maze & PYO Pumpkins!

    Admission for hayride:
    $10- adults
    $8 - Children (3-12yrs)
    Children 2yrs & under FREE

  3. 31st Annual Cecil Fall Festival

    Saturday and Sunday, September 29-30, 2018, 11am-5:30pm

    Live music, food and vendors all happening at the Cecil Township Park.

  4. Preschool at the Park- Hey! It’s a Hayride! At Mingo Park Shelter 1

    Tuesday & Wednesday, October 2-3, 2018, Session 1. 10:00am. Session Two- 1:00pm

    The leaves are changing colors and the air is crisp, what a great time for a hayride in Mingo Creek Park. Come dressed for the weather and join us in a hay-filled wagon ride through the park. After our ride, we’ll warm up with a cup of warm cider. An adult should plan to attend.

    FEE: $1

  5. 41st Annual Oglebayfest

    October 5-7, 2018

    Oglebayfest began in 1978 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Oglebay Park. Oglebayfest offers great food & a variety of traditional fair demonstrations and competitions for all ages. Two crowd-pleasing favorites, the Oglebayfest parade and the fireworks, will take place on Saturday. The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Good Zoo and, at 8:00 p.m., an electrifying fireworks display will light up the evening sky over Schenk Lake.

  6. Fall Fun Day at Mingo Park Shelter 6

    Saturday, October 6, 2018, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Mingo Creek Park

    Join the park staff for a fun-filled day of pumpkin carving, scarecrow stuffing, hayrides, cider sippin’ and marshmallow toasting.

    Pre-registration required; registration not more than 30 days in advance.

    Hayrides $2 per person

    Pumpkins $4 per person

    Scarecrow Stuffing Free- bring your own clothes

  7. Hickory Apple Festival

    Saturday and Sunday, October 6-7, 2018, 9am-6pm

  8. Public Safety & Health Hay Day

    Saturday, October 6, 2018, 12pm-4pm

    Come to South Park Fairgrounds and enjoy hay rides, barnyard petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, castle bounce, giant slide, balloon artist, puppet show, games, and more! Food, beverages and snacks will be available for purchase from local food trucks and vendors. Also meet the people who work to keep the public safe and healthy every day. You'll be able to check out our public safety, specialized emergency response and public works vehicles and equipment.

  9. Fall Festival 2018 at Southpointe

    Thursday, October 11, 2018, 4pm-8pm on Main Street in Southpointe Town Center.

    Kicking the event off with a Battle of the Bands between local high school and middle school bands, Main Street will be filled with their famous pumpkin patch, sweet creations for kids by My Favorite Sweet Shoppe and The Pie Place, plenty of games for kids of all ages and of course our autumn craft and farmers market, filled with over 25 vendors!

  10. 35th Annual Houston Pumpkin Festival

    October 12-13, 2018, 10am-7pm & October 14, 2018 10am-5pm

    Free admission to the festival with live entertainment, vendors, activities and food. For a full list of activities visit HERE.

  11. Parents' Night Out: Halloween Pool Party, Cameron Wellness Center

    Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM

    Come join us for a safe and fun night of swimming, exercises, activities, and healthy snacks! Activities begin with a swimming pool party as well as Halloween themed crafts, games and more! So be sure to bring your bathing suits! (Other games and activities will be available for children not looking to swim) 

    This program is suitable for ages 3-13 years old. 

    Pre-registration is required and space is limited. To ensure all may enjoy this popular program, 24 hours' notice is required for cancellation. Registration closes the Friday before the event.

  12. Campfire Ghost Stories

    Gather round a campfire and listen to our Park Rangers tell some spooky stories! All kids will receive a surprise. Wear a Halloween costume for a chance to win prizes!

  13. Pumpkin Patch trolley at the PA Trolley Museum

    October 13–14, October 20–21, October 27–28, 10am-5pm

    Admission includes a ride to the pumpkin patch and Trolley Display building, pumpkin decorating for children, children’s games, and fall-themed refreshments. Visitors will also receive a museum tour and unlimited trolley rides during the event! The Pumpkin Patch Trolley runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and the last trolley will leave for the pumpkin patch at 4 p.m. 
    $12 - adults
    $10 - seniors (ages 62+)
    $10 for kids (ages 1-15)

  14. Freaky Friday: Costume Parade at Upper St. Clair Community and Rec Center

    Friday, October 19, 2018, 10am-11:30am

    Costume Parade and Crafts at the Community & Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview ParkLittle monsters will enjoy collecting treats and trinkets during a costume parade through the Community & Recreation Center. The parade begins at promptly 10:30 a.m.. Come early or stay after the parade for photo opportunities and crafts! This event is FREE for members and non-members!

  15. Freaky Friday: Scary Swim at Upper St. Clair Community and Rec Center

    Friday, October 19, 2018, 6pm-8pm

    Scary Swim and Crafts at the Community & Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park. Gather up your favorite ghouls and goblins for their family-friendly Scary Swim. Be sure to stop by the lobby for some spooky craft making! The event is free for members and $8/person for non-members.

  16. Halloween Spooktacular & Pumpkin Plunge, Cameron Wellness Center

    Friday, October 19, 2018 at 6 PM – 8:30 PM

    Join us for a spooky night of tricks and treats with pumpkin decorating, bouncy castles, obstacle courses, goulish games, a haunted trail, Halloween dancing, and a costume contest! Prizes will be awarded for the costume and pumpkin decorating contests

    From 7:30 - 8:30pm, children are invited to come back to the therapy pool and plunge for a pumpkin to take home. Proper swimwear is required. 
    *This event is for all ages, but activities will be geared towards ages 3-14.
    *Haunted trail is weather permitting

  17. Dependable Drive In’s Halloween Spook-tacular

    Saturday, OCTOBER 20, 2018, 4pm-11:59pm

    Enjoy a trunk or treat followed by a drive in movie!

    Screen One (the family screen) will be showing an animated children's Halloween cartoon first, followed by the new Goosebumps 2, then followed by The House With A Clock In Its Walls, and finally Hotel Transylvania 3.

    Screen Two (the thrilling screen) will be showing the new Halloween, followed by The Nun, then followed by Slender Man, and finally Stephen King's It.

    Screen Three (the retro screen) will be showing Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959), followed by 13 Ghosts (1960), then followed by Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971), then followed by The Legend Of Boggy Creek (1972), and finally Werewolf Of Washington (1973).

  18. North Strabane Municipal Park Trunk or Treat

    Sunday, October 21, 2018, 5pm-7pm

    No registration necessary, wear your best costumes.

  19. Canonsburg Hospital Fitness Trail Trick or Treat

    Thursday, October 25, 2018, 4:00pm-5:30pm

    Children 12 years of age and under are invited to come dressed intheir favorite costume to meet our many “haunted hosts”. Wanderalong the Fitness Trail and hobnob with the goblins for an evening of trail-side tricks and plenty of treats.

  20. Trick or Treat at the East Finley Park, Claysville, PA.

    Saturday, October 27, 2018, 5pm-7pm

    They will have stations set up throughout the Park. Come dressed in your Halloween costume and take a walk through the Park to get your treats.

  21. Mt. Lebanon Recreation's Pumpkin Patch Parade

    Saturday, October, 27, 2018, 11am rain or shine

    Mt. Lebanon, Washington Road

    The parade starts at the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery and runs through the uptown business district to Washington Elementary School. Wear your Halloween costume and watch the parade pass by on the sidewalks between Shady Drive and Lebanon Avenue. After the MTL Firetrucks pass and the scarecrow/pumpkin inflatable passes, children with adult chaperones can join the parade. Following the parade, children are welcome to trick or treat at participating businesses along Washington Road. Look for the "Trick or Treat" sign in their store business window.

  22. South Park Shops 29th Annual Halloween Spooktacular

    Saturday, October 27, 2018, 1pm-3pm

    It's once again time for all of the little ghouls and goblins to visit South Park Shops for some Halloween fun! Join us for horse-drawn hayrides, a costume contest, trick-or-treating, music by DJ Tooth, and a show for the kids by the Rock N Roll Pet Store Kids' Show! The costume categories will be Scariest, Prettiest, Cutest, Funniest, Best Family/Group, & Overall Best Costume! Hope to see you there! 12 and under.

  23. Trick or Treat at The Waterfront

    Tuesday, October 30, 2018, 5pm–8pm
    Bring your little monsters and ghouls to The Waterfront  
    Town Center for safe trick-or-treating and frightening fun. 
    Have a bootiful Halloween!

    Candy Crawl ..................5 – 7pm
    Costume Contest ..........7 – 8pm
    Age Group 0 – 3 ........... 7:15pm
    Age Group 4 – 7 ............7:30pm
    Age Group 8 – 12........... 7:45pm

  24. Bounty at Boyce Mayview Park Fall Fest

    Saturday, November 3, 2018, 11am-4pm

    Enjoy all that fall has to offer at Boyce Mayview Park. Family-friendly activities are available both indoors and outside, and include kids’ crafts, a petting zoo, community services lot, a baking contest, s’mores making, apple sling shots, live music, food trucks and much more. There will be is fee for some activities and food, but admission is FREE.

Some of these events are free admission, some are free altogether, and some are low cost. But they all add to the fun and safety of the season!
