You will need:

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1/2 cup butter, softened

2 cups all purpose flour

1/3 Tsp salt

2 Tsp baking powder

Start by creaming softened butter and sugar. Then add your eggs one at a time.  In a separate bowl sift together your dry ingredients and gradually add to your sugar mixture until completely blended.

Separate the dough into 2 parts and wrap in wax paper and refrigerate until ready to roll out and cut.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Roll out the dough using flour on rolling pin and flat surface to keep dough from sticking. Use cookie cutters to make desired shapes.  Add decorations such as candies or sprinkles before baking at 350 for 5 to 10 minutes.  A great tip is to watch the cookies carefully as they can burn easily depending on how thin they are!! Serve and enjoy!

You can also decorate these cookies with icing and it makes for a great evening with the kiddos.

A Week of Christmas Treats!

Mary Ream's Sandtarts, also known as a cut out cookie comes from my husbands side of the family. Another great share from Aunt Sibyl Ream. This one coming from her mother-in-law.

The story is that there was quite the competition between David and his 2 brothers to see who could roll them out "thin enough that you can read the newspaper through them" when they were children. What a clever mom! I can just see Aunt Sibyl using this little gem with the grandchildren!
